In 2020, the digital library Liberabit was established (Rector’s Decree no. 1720/2020) at the initiative of the Director of the University Library System, Dr. Maria Rosaria Califano, with the aim of enhancing the pre-existing digital repository Elea (2014)* with new functionalities.

The updated version of the DSpace-GLAM platform represents a more agile and high-performing interactive solution for the web (with the inclusion of IIIF add-ons), enabling autonomous management by the designated team thanks to simplified procedures.

The migration phase between the two platforms was lengthy and required the involvement of a large group of librarians who, with great commitment, cleaned, processed, and uploaded: the Ventimiglia, Cuomo, Vignola, and Paesani Coen fonds; the periodicals section, expanding it with additional titles (such as Magazzino Enciclopedico Salernitano, La Lettura, Il Mese, etc.); and photographic materials.

In recent years, the digital library has further enriched its content with archival and graphic materials (project drawings), as well as through the creation of authority records for each author. Future plans include the expansion of collections through collaborations with local institutions and a stronger presence on and through social media, in order to reach an increasingly broad audience of both scholars and non-specialists and to ensure optimal access to the University’s cultural heritage.

*Elea, which is still online, collects research outputs such as doctoral theses, University journals, and affiliated publications.
